The Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of Newark is once again preparing the annual tradition of honoring those couples in our archdiocese who will be

celebrating five, twenty-five and fifty years of Christian marriage in the year 2012. These anniversary liturgies will be celebrated by Archbishop John J. Myers in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows:

• May 6 at 3:00 p.m. for couples celebrating a fiftieth anniversary

• June 3 at 3:00 p.m. for couples celebrating a fifth or twenty-fifth anniversary

Every couple in the archdiocese deserving of such recognition is encouraged to be present at the appropriate liturgy. The presence of a large number of couples will give favorable witness to the strength and stability of Christian marriage in today's society.

The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2012 is Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service. The annual observance starts Sunday, January 29, and runs all week.

Visitation Academy Interparochial, affiliated with Annunciation and Our Lady of the Visitation Parishes in Paramus and Sacred Heart Parish in Rochelle Park, will be holding two open houses during Catholic Schools Week.

• Sunday, January 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (following the CSW Opening Liturgy at 10:30 a.m.)

• Tuesday, January 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  This year, Catholic Schools Week will bring into focus three Catholic school priorities that make them stand out from other educational institutions.

  1. Children are taught faith – not just the basics of

     Christianity, but how to have a relationship with God.

  2. Academics, which in Catholic schools are held to very high standards, help each child reach his or her

     potential.

  3. Service, the giving of one’s time and effort to help

     others, is taught both as an expression of faith and good citizenship
